What is Pilates?

Pilates is a fitness program designed to rebalance the muscles of the body, focusing on deep core muscles involved in body balance and maintenance of the spine. This method is designed to develop muscle control, flexibility, coordination, strength and tone. The basic principle is to experiment with movement in depth, highlighting the "How" instead of "what to do". This method makes people more conscious of their body as a complete unit, improves alignment, posture, breathing and increase endurance and efficiency of movement. Quality instead of quantity.

Proper breathing, proper alignment of the body and good muscle development are among the few basic principles for the method to provide safe and effective exercise.  Each movement is performed conscientiously using the mind and body in synergy to increase the effectiveness of exercise performance.

The program consists of gentle exercises, performed on a mat or on an apparatus, specifically designed to lengthen, strengthen muscles, open joints and eliminate tension. It is adapted to the needs of the individual.

The multiple varieties of movements that can be performed on a mat and on the machines are suitable for people of all ages and all fitness levels. Thus, the heart patient, the obese, the top athlete, bodybuilders, pregnant women (before and after birth), and the injured can all benefit of this method.

It's more than training ... it's a lifestyle!
